REBECCA DINGWELL
Writer, Editor, Journalist
Hi! I'm Rebecca. I am a freelancer based in K'jipuktuk/Halifax, Nova Scotia. I'm fascinated by topics such as feminism, grief and the labour movement—but I am also happy to write about pop culture and the craft beer industry. When I'm not working, you can sometimes find me trying to stay upright on either roller skates or horseback. More likely, though, I am curled up with a book and a cup of tea (or a pint of beer).
WORK
About My Career
Autistic Anecdotes Column,
Saltwire
From October 2022 to October 2024, Saltwire published my monthly column on navigating life with autism after being diagnosed as an adult. "Autistic Anecdotes" (formerly "On The Spectrum") existed in select Saltwire weekly publications in Nova Scotia and, occasionally, other Atlantic provinces. See one of my columns here:
"Autistic kids need accommodation, understanding."
Celtic Life International Magazine
Since 2015, I have regularly written and copy-edited for Celtic Life International magazine: a publication covering Celtic culture through musician profiles, book reviews, travel pieces and other features. The magazine is subscription-based and publishes print issues quarterly, with digital-only editions in between. One of my recent features delves into the history of the Newfoundland Pony, as well as modern efforts to protect the animal.
Freelance Work
I have worked as a freelance writer and editor for several years. Most of my formal training is in journalism, but I have more recently gained interest in areas such as personal essay, analysis and criticism. My work has appeared in the Globe & Mail, THIS magazine, Insider and more. For a more comprehensive look at my experience, check out my CV.
